There’s a New Sheriff In Town…and I hear He’s an Okay Guy

Christian Dolan | 01/03

First, I’d like to thank the Academy…that is, Starfleet Academy for being so awesome (dude: they go into outer space!).

Wiseacreage aside, I’d like to thank Scott Gentry and Peter Hutchinson for the opportunity to join Pro Audio Coalition. A bit about me: beyond the painful story of my alien upbringing that you may see on my byline bio to the left, I have been a freelance sound mixer for five years, working on everything from volunteer short films to corporate videos, and reality television to indie features.

During that time, I (irregularly) wrote the original blog sync.sound.cinema, to fill the void that existed at that time for coverage of sound-for-picture in the production blogosphere. Being primarily self-taught, I started writing to share whatever I learned in the field with anyone else who showed an interest.  This will continue, along with gear reviews, and some prosyletizing for our on-set brethren. These latter articles will be preaching to the audio choir, but are intended to be forwarded to DPs, production coordinators and the like, to gently prod the production community into a more equitable and considerate relationship with the sound department, which will ultimately result in better sound and lower budgets. And, god willing, cookies.

So, there you have it for now. I will continue posting in parallel at sync.sound.cinema, but only teaser headers and links, so please change your bookmarks and redirect your RSS readers to this fine website in a timely manner.
